William S. Yu

 

1954 - Born on December 1, 1954 in Baculin Baganga, Davao Oriental, the eldest of five children of Vicente Yu, a copra dealer, and his second wife, Elvira Sayman, a former "Miss Baculin" whose family owned a coconut plantation.

 

Art Studies

 

- Painting - International Correspondence school (ICS) London

 

- Apprentice in the studio of National Artist Cesar Legaspi

 

- Studied Oriental Art from the books of Chi Pai Shih, Chang Da Chien, Pa Ta Shan Jen, Ting Yin Yung and Ukai Uchiyama

 

- Studied Greek philosophy from the books of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle as the basis of the idea known by "self and directness"

 

- Studied Oriental philosophy from the books of Bruce Lee, Lao Tzu and master Kung Chiu or Confucius, as the basis of the idea "self-realization and directness"

 

- Studied the different Arts of the West from Realism to Abstract Expressionism from books

 

- Studied Physics - the special theory of relativity of Albert Einstein and combined the theory of Cubism of Pablo Picasso and crated "Time Cubism"

 

- Studied the Torah and created the philosophy and style called "Hallelism" - The Messianic Art

 

- Developed a philosophy - "Absolute Freedom in Art" that considers classical art and modern art as one

 

- Developed a philosophy that all style in painting can be transformed to spiritual art by means of dedicating the work, as form of worship to the Lord, (Proverb 3:5-6) example cubism - Spiritual Cubism, expressionism - Spiritual Expressionism and so on

          - Entered by Lovino in the Davao Art Festival Exhibition at the Heritage Art Center

 

1984 - 3 Man Show with Jose W. Hernandez and Roger Gutierrez at Marion's Gallery

 

1985 - Group Show, Art Manila '85 - The Saturday Group, MOPA

 

          - Participated in the artists for Peace exhibition at the MOPA which was organized by Rhori Benicio of Galleria Aurora

 

1987 - Joined Gallery Genesis in a Residence Artists Art Exhibit

 

          - Participated in the Silver Anniversary Group presentation of the Saturday group at the SM Art Center

 

          - Two man show in Festival Mall Alabang with Philip Badon

1987 - 1st One Man show at Fred Liongoren Art Gallery, with Sen. Leticia Ramos Shahani as guest of honor

 

1990 - Show at the Hyatt under the sponsorship of Jose Crisologo
